Match Preview
This summer will be a huge opportunity for all three of next summer’s World Cup hosts to build momentum ahead of this home tournament. Mexico has a better record than most in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, having won two of the last three editions of the competition. That includes a success last year, as they won five of their six tournament matches.
In fact, Mexico has reached at least the semi-final stage in each edition of the Gold Cup since 2005. Javier Aguirre’s team got their form back on track in their final warm-up match before the start of the competition after beating Turkey 1-0 on Tuesday.

This weekend will be a historic moment for the Dominican Republic, as they will be playing at the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time in their history. They gained qualification after winning all six of their matches, scoring an impressive 29 goals in the process.
Their excellent momentum has continued in recent matches, which includes a warm-up success earlier this week after dominating Dominica to win 5-0 in World Cup qualification. However, this Saturday’s clash represents a step up in opposition.
Head-to-Head Record
Interestingly, this will only be the fourth international meeting between Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Mexico are unbeaten in each of the last three fixtures between the nations. However, this will be the first clash since a 5-1 win for Mexico in November 1990.
Mexico vs. Dominican Republic Picks
Mexico got their form back on track with a fine 1-0 win over Turkey in midweek, and their attacking quality looks set to sparkle in Los Angeles on Saturday. The Dominican Republic are an improving team, but it appears hard for them to upset the odds against such a talented rival this weekend.
